From 10 September 2026, cryptocurrency deposits worth less than US$0.0099 (just under one US cent) will no longer be automatically credited to your CoinJar account or included in your available balance.
This is called the Automatic Credit Threshold. It helps reduce disruption from tiny, unsolicited deposits, sometimes known as dust.
What is a dusting attack?
A dusting attack involves sending tiny amounts of cryptocurrency to wallet addresses without the recipients requesting them. These transactions may be used to track wallet activity or send spam.
On CoinJar, repeated dust deposits can also trigger requests for transfer information, even when you didn’t initiate or expect the deposits.
Why is CoinJar introducing this threshold?
Under Travel Rule requirements, CoinJar needs to collect certain information about cryptocurrency transfers, including details about the sender and recipient.
When someone sends many tiny deposits to your address, those transfers can trigger repeated information requests. The Automatic Credit Threshold helps reduce this disruption by preventing deposits below the threshold from being automatically credited.
The threshold does not prevent someone from sending a transaction to your address on the blockchain.
How does the threshold work?
The Automatic Credit Threshold applies to all cryptocurrency deposits worth less than US$0.0099, including genuine small transfers.
Deposits below the threshold will not be automatically credited or included in your available balance. If a deposit was intended for you, you can contact CoinJar Support to claim it.
If you are expecting a deposit worth less than US$0.0099:
- Contact us at CoinJar Support.
- Provide the deposit’s transaction identifier, also known as a transaction ID (TXID) or transaction hash.
- Provide any additional information requested to verify the deposit, including relevant Travel Rule information.
Once we have verified that the deposit belongs to you and can lawfully be credited, we will make it available in your account, subject to the required confirmations and compliance checks.
CoinJar’s US Terms of Service will be updated to reflect this change from 10 September 2026.
If you have any questions about the threshold or a small deposit, please contact CoinJar Support.
