To enjoy all of CoinJar's features, you'll need to verify your identity. This article will guide you through the verification process. 

Requirements

You'll need to meet some requirements to successfully verify your identity. Read about these here. 

 

Getting verified using CoinJar web

On the Home screen of your CoinJar account, you'll find the Getting Started card.

 

 

To begin the verification process, click or tap on Verify your info.

 

Step 1 - Activate your account

In this first step, you'll need to enter some basic information about yourself.

  1. Enter the following details as prompted:
    1. First name
    2. Middle name 
    3. Last name
    4. Date of Birth
    5. Residential address
    6. Country of citizenship
    7. Country of residency
  2. Review and confirm the details are correct then tap Submit.

Note: If you're having trouble finding your address, you can manually enter your address by tapping Enter address manually. Please ensure to enter the shortened version of your street suffix. E.g. "St" instead of "Street".

 

Step 2 - Identity verification

Do not close the window on your web browser on your computer or laptop. The page will automatically refresh. If you close the verification page, you will lose all progress towards getting verified.

 

Photo ID Document

Now, we need a proof of identity document such as a drivers licence or passport.

  1. Tap Verify photo ID
  2. Have the document you will use to verify your identity ready and close by
  3. Check the box that says "I consent to Jumio collecting, processing and sharing my personal information, which may include biometric data, as set out in its Privacy Notice."
  4. Tap Start

  5. Choose the issuing country or region of your document.
  6. Choose the document you wish to use to verify.

  7. From here, toggling settings for camera permissions in the browser.

  8. Follow the onscreen instructions to capture the ID document. A liveness check will also be done as part of the process.

    For option to continue the process on your mobile device. Scan the QR code on your mobile device or enter in your email address to receive a link to continue identity verification on your mobile device. Follow the prompts to take photos of your document.

  9. When you open the link or scan the QR code you'll continue the identity verification process on your mobile device's web browser. This process will make use of your device's front and back cameras.
  10. Follow the prompts to take photos of your chosen Photo ID - if you've chosen a drivers licence you will to take photos of the front and back.
  11. Review the photos to ensure all parts of the document are clear and visible, then tap Confirm.

Our systems will automatically check your photos for quality before moving on to the next step.

Note: In some rare instances, you may be required to submit a second identity document before you can proceed to the next stage. We'll let you know via email if this is required.

 

 

ID Selfie

Next, we need a photo of your face (also called 'selfie') using your front camera to complete your identity verification. This selfie helps us to meet our regulatory requirements and prevent financial crime.

  1. Make sure you are in an area with appropriate lighting and your front facing camera is clear.
  2. Tap Start to begin this process.
  3. Follow the prompts to take your selfie. Our systems will automatically check your photo for quality.
  4. If the selfie is successfully captured, you will see the following message:

Step 3 - Compliance requirements

To meet our regulatory requirements, we need to ask for some additional information about you. You'll see a form with a short questionnaire.

UK residents are required (in accordance with local legislation) to complete an appropriateness assessment to show they understand the risks associated with what crypto/investment they are about to buy and enabling CoinJar to categorise them as an investor.

 

That's it! We'll review the information you've submitted and notify you by email as soon as your identity verification is complete, or we'll reach out if we need further information.

 

Step 4 - Financial Promotion requirements

CoinJar must assess your understanding of the risks and characteristics of cryptoassets, and categorise your investor status. On the Home page, you should see the "Action Required" option to begin this process. You can read more on our Knowledge Base below:

Getting verified using the CoinJar app

On the Home screen of your CoinJar account, you'll find the Get verified to start trading crypto banner. To begin the verification process, tap on Get verified to start trading crypto.

 

You'll be shown the verification steps, with the first one being to activate your account. Click Continue to get started.

  4. Tap Done to close the page.
