* For cap-adjusted bundles with a high number of cryptocurrencies, the top three performing cryptos by market cap will have a limit of 25%, 15% and 10% respectively, with the remaining bundle investment spread across the remaining tokens within a bundle. This ensures that at least 50% of your bundle investment is diversified. We will review the allocation of cap-weighted CoinJar Bundles every quarter, however the changes won’t take effect unless you unbundle and then re-bundle your impacted CoinJar Bundle.
What is the difference between a proportional allocation versus a cap adjusted allocation?
Proportional allocation
This is the simplest allocation type: your purchase amount will be distributed among all the currencies within the given bundle using the specified weighting. This is typically an even distribution based on an investment amount, however some currency allocation can be larger than others depending on the bundle.
Example
A person has $1200 in their account and wishes to invest the whole amount into the Popular Duo bundle. This bundle is proportionally allocated with a ratio of 50% each meaning that $1200 will be evenly distributed across both BTC and ETH. The end result is that the person now owns the Popular Duo bundle with $600 allocated to BTC and the remaining $600 allocated to ETH.
Note: For the purpose of this example, applicable fees were not included.
Cap adjusted allocation
Cap adjusted allocation uses free float market capitalisation for allocating assets and limits concentration to the top few assets to ensure a diversified portfolio. This means that, especially for tokens with a high market cap such as bitcoin, we’ve placed a percentage limit on the proportion of your investment that goes to these high market cap tokens. In turn, your investment will be more diversified across the lower market cap coins within a bundle.
For cap-adjusted bundles with a high number of cryptocurrencies, the top three performing cryptos by market cap will have a limit of 25%, 15% and 10% respectively, with the remaining bundle investment spread across the remaining tokens within a bundle. This ensures that at least 50% of your bundle investment is diversified.
The top three cryptos by market cap are determined approximately at the start of the quarter and will remain with their respective basket weighting for the duration of the quarter regardless of market fluctuations. This means that if UNI happens to crash throughout the quarter, its basket allocation limit will still be 25% until the next quarter.
Example
A person wishes to invest into the DeFi bundle.
Basket content: ZRX, AAVE, SNX, BNT, SUSHI, CRV, KNC, COMP, LINK, MKR, UNI, YFI
CoinJar places a basket allocation limit of 25%, 15% and 10% respectively to the top three performing cryptos by market cap, with the remaining bundle investment spread across the remaining tokens within a bundle.
A person purchasing the DeFi Bundle on the 21st April 2021, will purchase a bundle with asset allocations that were determined approximately at the start of the quarter, which in this case would be in the first week of April. During that week UNI had the largest market capitalization followed by LINK and MKR. In this example, UNI will have a 25% basket allocation limit, followed by LINK at 15% and MKR at 10%. The remaining bundle investment will be spread across the remaining tokens within a bundle.
Note: For the purpose of this example, applicable fees were not included.
