Introduction
Passkeys add an extra layer of security to your CoinJar account and help you sign in more quickly. You can set up a passkey during sign-up or add one later in the CoinJar app under More → Passkeys.
You will still need your CoinJar password. A passkey provides an additional way to verify it’s you and for enhanced security purposes, it doesn’t replace your password currently.
What is a passkey?
A passkey is a digital security credential. When CoinJar asks you to verify with a passkey, you approve the request using your device or passkey provider. For example, with facial recognition, a fingerprint or a device PIN.
Passkeys are designed to work only with the genuine app or website they were created for, helping protect against phishing.
Why set up a passkey?
- Quicker sign-ins: Use your passkey to verify a sign-in rather than waiting for an email confirmation when approving a new device.
- Additional security: Add a phishing-resistant verification method to your account.
- Convenient approval: Verify using your device’s supported security features.
Set up a passkey during sign-up
You’ll be encouraged to create a passkey when signing up for CoinJar. Follow the on-screen instructions to create and save it.
If you skip this step, you can add one later.
Add a passkey to an existing account
- Open the CoinJar app and sign in.
- Go to More → Security -> Passkeys.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to add and save a passkey.
- Complete the verification requested by your device or passkey provider.
Will I still need my password?
Yes. Passkeys provide enhanced security for your CoinJar account by adding another way to verify it’s you. They work alongside your password, rather than replacing it.
