How to confirm your sign-in using the CoinJar app

Introduction

When signing in to CoinJar on a web browser, you can use a push notification sent to your CoinJar mobile app to confirm your device.

This provides an alternative to entering a two-factor authentication (2FA) code or using a passkey directly in your browser. It’s useful if your passkey isn’t available on the device you’re signing in from, but you can still access it on your mobile device.

You’ll still need to use your passkey on your mobile device to approve the sign-in.

What do I need?

To confirm your sign-in using the CoinJar app, you’ll need to:

  • Already be signed in to your account in the CoinJar mobile app.
  • Have a passkey set up for your CoinJar account and accessible on your mobile device.
  • Be able to receive push notifications from CoinJar.

There’s no separate setup required for this feature. If you haven’t added a passkey yet, see How to set up a passkey for your account.

Confirm your sign-in

  1. Start signing in on the web. When prompted to confirm your device, follow the prompts to receive a notification in your CoinJar app.
  2. Check the code in your browser. A two-digit code will appear. Keep this page open.
  3. Open the push notification on your mobile device. This will take you to the Confirm Sign In screen in the CoinJar app.
  4. Review the request and match the code. Check the device and approximate location, then select the two-digit code that matches the one shown in your browser.
  5. Approve using your passkey. Follow the on-screen prompts to authenticate with the passkey available on your mobile device.
  6. Return to your browser. Once the app displays Sign-in approved, return to the browser where you started signing in to continue.

What if I don’t receive a notification?

Check that you’re signed in to the CoinJar app, your mobile device has an internet connection, and notifications are enabled for CoinJar in your device settings.

If you can’t use this method, use another available verification option shown during sign-in.

What if I didn’t start the sign-in?

Only approve a sign-in you started. CoinJar staff will never ask you to approve a sign-in.

If you receive a request you don’t recognise, select Cancel request in the CoinJar app and contact CoinJar Support immediately. Don’t select a code or approve the request with your passkey.
