You can use a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay in the CoinJar mobile app allowing you to add cryptocurrency to your CoinJar without first making deposit from your bank account to your CoinJar.
CoinJar supports all UK Visa and MasterCard credit or debit cards.
If you use a credit card to buy cryptocurrency, you would be putting borrowed money at risk of loss.
Using a card linked to your CoinJar
- On the CoinJar app: Tap on Buy/Sell in the bottom menu bar. On the CoinJar website: Click on Buy/Sell at the top of the page.
- Select a cryptocurrency and then Buy.
- Select your transfer method. If you've already linked a credit/debit card, skip to step 6.
- Select Link a credit or debit card.
- Enter your card number and select your desired billing currency.1
- Directly above the keypad, tap on the dropdown menu, and select your linked card as the transfer method.
- Specify the amount you wish to buy in GBP and click Next.
- Carefully review the fee, the conversion rate, and the amount that you will be purchasing.
- Read the Terms of Service and tick the checkbox if you agree.
- Click Confirm.
- You will be redirected to our payment provider. On this page, you may be prompted for two-factor authentication by your financial institution to authorise the transaction.2
1 If you select a currency other than your home currency, you may be charged a foreign exchange fee by your credit card provider.
2 Funds will not be debited from your card, or credited to your CoinJar, until the authorisation process on your bank's site is complete.
Using Apple Pay and Google Pay
- Tap on Buy/Sell in the bottom menu bar of the CoinJar app.
- Select a cryptocurrency and then Buy.
- Directly above the keypad, tap on the dropdown menu and select Apple Pay or Google Pay depending on your device.
- Specify the amount you wish to buy in GBP and click Next.
- Carefully review the fee, the conversion rate, and the amount that you will be purchasing.

- You will be redirected to Apple Pay or Google Pay to finalise the transaction.
Fees
Cryptocurrency purchases using a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay will incur a 2% fee.
Your credit card provider may charge a cash advance fee. Please contact your card provider for more information.
Selecting a currency other than GBP as your billing currency may incur foreign exchange fees by your card provider.
Account limits
Most CoinJar members will be able to purchase up to £5,000 worth of cryptocurrencies per day.
Your account limits may vary, and you can check your CoinJar's limits at any time by:
- Signing in to your CoinJar
- Navigating to More
- Selecting 'General' and then 'Usage and limits'
All CoinJar members can have up to three active cards at any given time.
You can only link three different cards to a CoinJar in a rolling 30 day window counting all cards that are unlinked.
Reserved Balances
Purchases using a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay may be subject to a seven day reserved balance.
This is an essential part of our fraud prevention initiative.
After seven days have passed, you'll be able to transfer your funds externally as intended.
Future purchases made using the same card will not be subject to the reserve period.
Bundles and Recurring Buy
You are able to add funds to Bundles with your Credit/Debit Card using a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
All previously mentioned fees, limits and restrictions apply to funding a Bundle with a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
NEW: Recurring Buy fee
Recurring Buy, where you set up regularly scheduled payments to add funds to your Bundles, is subject to a 1% flat fee.
