To enjoy all of CoinJar's features, you will need to verify your identity. This article will guide you through the verification process.
Requirements
You will need to meet some requirements to successfully verify your identity. Read about these here.
Getting verified using CoinJar web
From your CoinJar Home screen, select Verify your info under Getting Started to begin verifying your account.
Step 1 - Activate your account
In this first step, you will need to enter some basic information about yourself.
Choose your Country of Residence/Jurisdiction and Individual from the drop down lists.
You will first need to agree to the Patriot Act disclosure before continuing. Then, enter your first, middle (if applicable), and last names, as well as your date of birth, exactly as they appear on the ID document you intend to use in Step 2 below (e.g. your driver’s license or passport).
You will also be asked to select your Country of Citizenship and enter your residential address.
We currently check if address falls in a supported state. If state falls outside of supported state, we provide an error to the user after submission and they will not be able to proceed to the POI stage.
Supported states can be viewed here.
Step 2 - Identity verification
Do not close the window on your web browser on your computer or laptop. The page will automatically refresh. If you close the verification page, you will lose all progress towards getting verified.
After submitting your account details, you will be prompted to verify your photo ID.
To complete this step, CoinJar uses Plaid for identity verification. When you click Continue, the Plaid verification flow will begin:
If you are using the mobile app, the process will launch directly on your device.
If you are using a web browser, a QR code will appear on your screen. Simply scan the QR code with your mobile device to continue.
To continue, you will need to provide the following details to verify your identity:
Mobile number (a verification code will be sent to this number)
First and last name (middle name if applicable)
Date of birth
Residential address
Social Security Number (SSN)
If you have already verified your identity on another platform using Plaid, you may be able to re-use your previous details including any documents you’ve already submitted.
You can use one of the following documents:
Driver’s License
ID Card
Passport
Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
Depending on the document, you may be asked to take a photo of the front, or both front and back.
The selfie check takes around 10–12 seconds.
Do not close the window on your web browser on your computer or laptop. The page will automatically refresh. If you close the verification page, you will lose all progress towards getting verified.
Step 3 - Compliance requirements
1: Select Your Tax Classification
Choose the appropriate Federal Tax Classification from the dropdown. (For individuals only)
2: Review Your Pre-filled Information
The following details will already be filled in based on your account setup and Plaid verification:

Please check that everything is correct.
